U.S. Coast Guard alternatives for distributed data base management systems

The United States Coast Guard is a relatively small federal agency tasked with a number of duties. Its multi-mission nature and low budget is driving the Coast Guard to realize better use of its resources. A pivotal factor in this goal is the investment in the information systems architecture of the future, today. Within the information architecture, data base technology plays an important role. It is to be employed in major operational and administrative systems, as well as in the future Coast Guard District Minicomputer Procurement.
